i answer the phone
and a voice on the other end
questions and questions
why me, why not me

i answer the phone
and a voice on the other end
pours out loneliness and despair,
saying take it away, make it better

i answer the phone
and a voice on the other end
releases its grief, crying,
quietly sobbing, loudly screaming

i answer the phone
and the pain of others
tries to find surcease
in words instead of introspection

i answer the phone
and a voice on the other end
brings joy to my world
with nothing more than hi baby

i still answer the phone
because of one voice
