Remembrance

A friend was laid to rest today
Sweet, gentle and kind
not what you would think of as a fighter
but fight she did, strong and fierce,
everyday that I knew her.

A strong and independent woman
in charge of her life,
and a business that she ran.
Named Taipan for her firm hand.
Yet she had a golden throat and sang so sweet and clear.

Then came a day with news that was bad,
her body was in revolt.
thus the fighter was forged,
her battle begun, though she knew
it was never to be won.

She fought with smiles and hugs
till she couldn't bear a touch
She made friends across the world
lent her support, sent smiles and hugs
and that's how it was that I found her

We laughed and teased
had good times, traded stories back and forth
wielded hammers, stayed up late,
and watched each others backs
even though we never would meet

Good times and bad we stayed in touch
each ready with a hug
Others came and went like tidal flows
but she stayed and stuck
true friends like that really aren't just luck

In the end she had to lose
and in doing so won her peace
She's made the trip we all must make
an angel on earth no more
a real one now looking down, from all her cares released
